Canadian Collegiate Rodeo Association

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics is proud of its rich and accomplished history. Recently ranked as the third most successful athletics program in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) over the past 50 years, RDP Athletics continues to build on a legacy of excellence while advancing toward an even stronger future in both provincial and national competition.
The RDP Kings and Queens form a vibrant and supportive community of more than 200 competitors across 19 teams in ten sports. These include Basketball, Cross Country Running, Curling, Dance, Futsal, Hockey, Indoor Track, Rodeo, Soccer and Volleyball.
In the most recent years, the Red Deer Polytechnic Rodeo program has grown significantly in both size and reputation. In 2023, RDP student-athletes were recognized with the prestigious Canadian Collegiate Rodeo Association (CCRA) Cowgirl and Cowboy of the Year awards. Building on this success, the Kings Rodeo teams delivered outstanding performances at the 2024 CCRA Finals, earning three additional event championships. This momentum continued into 2025, our Kings capturing the coveted Cowboy of the Year title, leading into 2026 Finals with our Queens at the helm, bringing home another overall Cowgirl, adding to our program Rodeo titles.
To date, RDP student-athletes have earned 18 Canadian Collegiate Rodeo titles, demonstrating the strength, dedication, and talent within our program.
Our team is grounded in the core values of sportsmanship, commitment, and volunteerism. We foster a positive and encouraging environment where student-athletes support one another both in training and in competition, working together toward shared success.
Since its inception in spring 2013 with just three members, the RDP Rodeo program has experienced steady growth, at times expanding to as many as forty athletes in a season. We are especially proud to have qualified for the Canadian Collegiate Rodeo Finals every year since our program began.
We celebrate the achievements of our athletes through two annual scholarships that recognize excellence in performance, leadership, and dedication. These awards honour student-athletes who excel in the arena, demonstrate strong academic commitment, and serve as role models within our community.
