We are proud of our historic athletics past; Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics was recently ranked third in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) during the past 50 years. We are also extremely excited for the future as we continue to strive for excellence in provincial and national competition.

As Kings and Queens, student-athletes are part of cohesive group of more than 200 student-athletes who compete in ten sports on 19 teams. These sports include Basketball, Cross Country Running, Curling, Hockey, Indoor Track, Soccer, Futsal, Volleyball, Dance and Rodeo.

During the past several years, the Red Deer Polytechnic Rodeo team has grown in prominence.

In 2023, RDP student-athletes were honoured with the prestigious CCRA Cowgirl and Cowboy of the Year Awards. Building on that momentum, our Kings Rodeo teams continued their strong performance at the 2024 CCRA Finals, proudly claiming three additional event championships. The success continued into 2025, with another King earning the coveted CCRA Cowboy of the Year title.

To date, RDP student-athletes have secured a total of 16 Canadian Collegiate Rodeo titles, a true testament to their dedication, talent, and the strength of our rodeo program.

Sportsmanship, commitment, and volunteerism are core values of our program, with a strong emphasis on fostering a supportive team environment. Our students consistently encourage one another, both in practice and during competition, as we work together toward collective team success.

Our program began in the spring of 2013 with a small group of just three members. Over the past decade, our team has fluctuated in size—from as few as three to as many as forty. We’re proud to have qualified for the Canadian Collegiate Rodeo Finals every year since our inception, and we take great pride in the growth and progress we’ve achieved over the years.

We honour our athletes' success by awarding two scholarships each year to recognize outstanding performance, leadership, and dedication within the RDP Rodeo program. These scholarships are presented to student-athletes who not only excel in the arena but also demonstrate strong academic commitment and serve as role models. This initiative reflects our continued investment in the growth and development of our athletes.
